Why should we enter to a competition ?
The fist question is , why do we enter for a competition ?
We all wanna grow, be better and better on what we do. Challenge our selves. Competition is one of the best way to do it .
Yes, we have amazing people around us (sister, parents, boyfriend, our clients ) who are keep telling us that our job is amazing. It might be enough, but to have a professional scoring is the one which will tell us exactly on what level our knowledge is.
So entering into a competition can cost less or more ( some of them are free ) depending on the organizer, sponsors and judges . The things we need to check. Who are the judgers ? Are they well known lash experts ? Are they in the industry long enough ? It is very important if you wanna get the best judgements for your work ,hence you have to get it from the best ones.
We have to also compare the price of the entry with the sponsors. If the sponsors are some big names and giving out a really high quality goodie bags, than that is a positive point to register for the competition.
If the sponsors are non known ones or it has a cheap poor quality branded products, and the entry price cost a lot it won`t be payable to enter. Better to keep looking for another competitions.
Don`t get me wrong, the prizes are not the reason to go for a competition, but if we have to pay an X amount of money and take our time and hard work to get to the top places , we would want some nice quality product to try out beside our trophy.
What type of lash competitions do we know ? -Live and online !
Online competition:
Pros :
1) , There is no time limit during online competition so don't need to rush it, take your time to do those lash sets until they meet your expectation. If someone is a perfectionist or a beginner this would be perfect to start with, rather than with a live competition as our time is limited there.
2), You can choose your own model
3) , You can charge your model for 50% of the treatment price ,or for the price of your materials you used.
4), Don`t have to travel ( no extra fee )
5), On some online competitions we can get advice from the judges and explanations for our scores.
Contras:
1), We have to send our work by taking photos and email it to them ,make sure we send all the requested photos from each requested angle, if we don`t have a good quality phone or camera the judges won`t be able to give maximum score for many criteria's as they wont be able to see those details . (stickies , amount of glue, attachment from the skin etc...
2), Hard to find perfect client with nice, smooth skin, perfect lashes and eye shape.
3), Unfortunately we won`t get the final results straight away. We might need to wait for a few months until they announce it.
4), On most online competitions the judges wont explain your scores and the reason for getting them, and sometimes we don't get the scores at all.
(Average price : £25-100 )
Live Competition:
Pros:
1), We can see the actual quality of our work as we are under pressure and have limited time to work on our model . Usually 2-3,5 hours depending on the volume we go for .
2), Judges check our work front of us and we are able to see their reactions . We can ask them about the result and for their advices.
3), We get the results straight away , or on the next day .
4), We have chance to meet with other lash technicians, other beauticians.
5), Some competitions are in another countries . You can combine one of your holiday with a competition. :)
Contras:
1), Our hand can be shaky because of the stress, and pressure.
2), If we do mistakes we won`t have time to fix it
3), If we are not fast enough we may not be able to finish our lash set.
4), On some competitions we have to take our model to another country and this can be very expensive.
5), Some competition provides their own models ( we might get someone with bad lashes , sensitive eye...etc.. )
6), It can be pricy if we have to travel to another country .
7), All costs are on us
Average price: £50-150
